Character-Building for Little Characters

I was riding down the road the other day thinking of all the work I have to do before my kids leave home. No, I'm not talking about the many loads of laundry and sinkfuls of dishes between now and then. I'm talking about their character. Sometimes it seems that we are taking one step forward and two steps back in some areas. It's easy to get discouraged.

This month's review product from Gabby Moms came just at the right time! A neat little spiral-bound book arrived in my mailbox, wrapped in lovely paper and ribbon, Lorrie-style. Fresh encouragement? Yes! As you know, Lorrie Flem is the creator of Eternal Encouragement magazine, which I reviewed earlier this year.

The name of the book is Authors and Artists.

I'm so excited about using this during our Bible class with my two older children. It is recommended for ages 7 to 16. Each page has a short character lesson and writing prompts for the child to write about what he has learned. Handwriting and character practice? I'm thrilled!

So, just what will they be learning? The list includes 24 character traits, the 10 commandments, the fruit of the Spirit and all 107 points of the Westminster Catechism.

I love how the book is divided into 42 five-day weeks with a different topic addressed every week. There are even special pages for holidays like Christmas and the 4th of July.

There is space to write in the book, so it could be used as a keepsake to remember later where your child was in his character-building journey this year. However, this book seems to be valuable for upcoming years and children, so I will probably have them write elsewhere so we can use this book again and again.

Lorrie is giving away a copy of this book on her blog. If you have a younger child that prefers drawing to writing, she is also giving away a similar book called Artists and Authors. Be sure and tell her who sent you! Here are the links for the giveaways:

I also got another little surprise in my package from Lorrie. But I'll tell you about that one next week!

Disclaimer: I received this product free of charge in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any other way for this review and all opinions are mine.

  1. I agree about not writing in the book to be able to use it again and again!
