Do you ever feel useless and like you really aren't making a difference in life? I think all of us feel that way at one time or another. But in this passage of Scripture, God makes it very clear to us that ALL of us have a purpose-no matter how big or small.
As a Pastor's wife of a small congregation, seemingly in the middle of nowhere, I tend to have a pity party once in awhile about how useless I feel to God. It's so easy to look around at other Christians who are "Giants" in the faith, and have accomplished "so much" for God; and compare that to the small handful of things that we have done. However, it isn't just the big things that are done for God that matter. The little things that we do are just as vital to Him as the big stuff. He only needs an obedient vessel to work through, and HE will do the real work.
God has a special place for each of us in His work. If all of us had the exact same talents and gifts, we wouldn't be able to get a variety of things done for God. He knows what He needs us to do, and He has equipped us for the task if we are willing to just do it. I Corinthians 12:18 (KJV) says, "But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath PLEASED HIM." If our desire is to please Him, then we need to be content with the abilities He has given to us.
Why is it that we tend to focus only on the "Big things" that are done for Christ, and overlook the "small things"? If we are truly just wanting to please our King (and not bring glory to ourselves) then we should be content to labor in the little fields of harvest. Let's leave the rewarding up to God. He tells us in verse 23 of that same chapter, "And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness." (KJV)
So when you find yourself feeling like only a "nose" in the Body of Christ, instead of the "hands" or "feet"; remember, all of us have a purpose. It's our job just to do our part, and allow our Father to work out the purpose and plan. Let's let Him use us, however He sees fit.
