Sweetest Day Celebration: Friends

They come in all colors, shapes and sizes. Their personalities are each unique and different. Each of them contribute to our lives in a special way. What would we do without friends? I couldn't begin to honor all my friends, but a few stand out in my mind as I write this.

Some of my oldest friends are those I've known since starting school with them in second grade. Over the years since graduation, I have kept in contact with 3 of them. Recently, we were all able to get together for our 10th high school reunion with our families. It was so much fun to catch up, reminisce and watch our children act as goofy as we did so many years ago!

Our four families at the high school reunion

I am an Anne of Green Gables fan, and I marvel at how few "kindred spirits" there really are in life. A few of my friends are such that we can go without seeing one another for years, yet when we get together we can just start where we left off. One of my dear "kindred spirits" is Trina. Another is Emily. I just appreciate them so much!

I couldn't write a post about friends without mentioning my online friends. If you are a blogger, you may understand this connection. However, some of my online friends I met way before the days of Facebook and blogs. Sarah has always challenged me on just about everything I believe in! We are truly an example of "iron sharpening iron" and share only our love for Jesus in similarities. Jennifer and I have prayed together over IM and encouraged each other in our marriage and parenting journeys. Santina, who you met last week, has taught me so much about embracing simple life and enjoying my family. My Holiness Highlights ladies have been such a blessing, and I have even met a few of them in "real" life. Angela motivates me to be healthier, even going so far as to break it to me that a caramel latte is a dessert and therefore not on my healthy eating plan! Of course, I could mention many of you, my readers, as newer online friends as well. You're all great!

Speaking of online friends, I have just accepted the Good Morning Girls challenge given by Courtney at Women Living Well. It is made up of a few ladies from my church. It has been such a blessing to have a group of like-minded ladies to which I am accountable for daily quiet time with the Lord!

I could mention a host of others that have contributed to my life over the years: Sherilyn, Tonya, Pam, Renae, Becky and so many more! I love you all and thank you for sharing, praying, laughing, crying, loving and living together over the years!

TODAY...pick three friends you haven't talked to in a while and call, e-mail, write a letter or send a message on Facebook to them. Tell them how much they mean to you, and if that makes you feel too sappy, just tell them I told you to do it!

THEN....leave me a comment telling me how a friend has particularly blessed your life.

MOST IMPORTANTLY...Remember the Friend that sticks closer than a brother, Who gave His life for you. I am so thankful that my Lord Jesus is the dearest Friend of all!

  1. 3 cheers for your good morning girls!!! And what a blessing it is that you have so many good friends. That shows that you yourself are a good friend! Your friends are lucky to have you in their lives!!! I wrote a post Friday about a friend that has been a blessing in my life - Shasta - she reached out to me when I was new to a group and felt alone...that experience reminds me that I need to do that for new women in our church who feel those same "nervous" jitters. I want them to feel comfortable and loved - and who knows - maybe we'll have a friendship 20 years later!!!
