Completing Him Challenge: Along for the Ride

Here's this week's challenge: Support his vision. Discuss his vision for your family. Where does he see your family in 1 year, 5 years, and 10 years. Share with us how you let your husband lead.

Our 11 year marriage has been full of changes...some good, some bad, others somewhere in between. In our home, my husband has always been the primary wage earner. I made some income in our life BK (before kids) and a little bit since. However, since I began homeschooling, my income potential is pretty much at 0. This means that my husband is providing for our financial needs 100%, so why should I question his career goals?

When we were first married, he left his previous job and took a significant pay cut to follow God's leading for our lives. A few years later, it proved to be a good decision and God blessed him with higher income and promotions. Then, it looked like we'd reached a dead end, and his plant was being closed down.

He left to pursue a completely different career--managing his own business. We learned so much through that experience, and he got to pursue a dream he'd always had. That period of our lives involved our whole family instead of just him. We often had to meet him at different locations to deliver trucks, pick up packages, etc. I often joked that I was just "along for the ride."

However, just as I was getting used to that, God led him back to his original career in a different location. That's where he is today.

At any point along my husband's career journey, I could have fought him, nagged him, and explained that his decisions didn't make particularly good sense to me. However, there was something involved that was much bigger than the two of us. I should say Someone. God had our lives planned for us, and as long as we have walked in His will, He has always provided amply for us through my husband's dedication, hard work, and determination to follow after God.

For me to question my husband's decisions would be for me to doubt God's plan and provision for our life together. Now that doesn't make good sense!
